Recipes to Share: Corny Mac & Cheese

A great, quick and easy impressive homemade side!

2 cups elbow macaroni, boiled
4 oz velveeta, melted
1 can creamed corn

Combine and bake for 20 minutes in glass dish 8x8 or 9x9 or pie plate. Yummy home cooking!

We weren't real sure about corn in mac and cheese but it's a goodie likely to be a regular side dish around here as it's extra filling!

One Month Already

My little Boogey Man is already a month old. . . Oh me oh my!

We are already done
with month number one.
What have we done
since your days begun?
You've met almost everyone
and stolen some hearts.
You've oinked as you eat
from the very start.
Your fingers have been counted
as well as your toes.
You've proven to have Daddy's face
but, maybe, Mommy's nose.
Chats have been had
& songs have been sung
by Mom and Dad
in month number one.
I'm so proud my son
of all you have done
in just month number one
and we've only begun.

Thanksgiving 2011

I have so much to be thankful for this year. First and foremost for the Father who makes it all possible and continues to bless beyond what I can ever earn. Second, for my family: those I've hand-picked and adopted into my life and those that have been here all along! Of course, the newest addition to my family is high on the list and definitely worth mentioning!

This Thanksgiving is EXTRA special in that it is my hubby's birthday too! This world has been blessed with him for 28 years and I've been blessed to be in on the last 5! This year has been a big one for him. He's gotten two promotions: one at work as he takes on an assistant managerial position with the company he's worked at for 3 years and one at home as he takes on the role of Daddy! The reasons I'm thankful for him are endless but a reminder of the gratitude I owe him comes daily: he gave me a baby, made me a mommy and continues to see me as his wife and as myself: a gift that I will appreciate now and in the future.

Another reason I am grateful to Michael: despite my annoying Type A personality that sometimes comes across without the good intentions that support it, he's still with me. Now matter how many times I've made unrealistic expectations a burden on him, he continues to try anyway. How does he have the patience? So, as a birthday gift to him, I am documenting this statement: I am not perfect. I know you are not and I love you anyway: Unconditionally Faithfully Forever!

Happy Birthday to my hubby and Happy Thanksgiving to you & yours!

November Project: The Before

This tray is one I got half off at Calico Hen House when a vendor was closing shop. $11! It has sat in my sad little office for a good three months accumulating little crap I think will fit in it when it's finally hung up. I decided I want to make it an inspirational piece as well as a display for all those wallet-sized photos that rotate through our wallet, out of the wallet and on to. . . where else? Who knows? Here's the before. We'll see how long it takes me to get to the after!

Yes, I AM a Yes Person

Many of us claim to be "yes people" (especially in job interviews). At work, I truly believe I'm a yes person. I'm even the person who feels bad when I HAVE to say no. At home, yes, I'll do that and that and that. Elsewhere, not as much now that life pretty much revolves around those two places. However, I'm finding a reason to be a new kind of "yes person". Here's my reason:

Garrett at 3 weeks old. Smiling? Or opening for binky? :)

The new "yes" comes from my mouth when someone offers help, an extra hand, a meal, a favor, etcetera. I've typically been very bad at even accepting offers of assistance let alone go out of my way to look for or voluntarily find and use help. I'm challenging myself to be better at this. It's for my own benefit and sanity and will ultimately result in a better person to offer to my loved ones. Knowing that I now have a very important role in meeting the needs of that little guy is motivation enough to swallow my pride and say "yes"!

I won't lie-it's not been the easiest transition. I hate being made to look like I NEED help. So, if I were asked if I NEED something, I'd still very likely say "no". However, if I were asked if someone could do something for me, I'm much more likely to say "yes". What's more? We're going to our church's Wednesday dinner for connecting families! No one asked us, invited us, or anything. They just put it in the bulletin and I told Mike that I thought it was a great opportunity for us and not JUST because we're new parents but because it is really about connecting.  I imagine connections with families in our boat, past our boat, or even those who've ditched this boat and are swimming to some empty nest shore can be to our benefit and contribute to our growth as Christians individually and as our little family.

So, thank you to all of you who have offered, sorry to all of those I've declined, and thank God for giving me this realization now. I am guessing that parenting will lead to many more much needed favors in the years to come and I've got to continue to work on on my "yes" and my own help-seeking for this purpose.

The Letter "B"

Along with baby came bounds of "b"s to our abode. Baby world is run by "b"s. . .

Bassinet, Baths, Books: These need no definition for any of you!

Binky: This is what we call his pacifier. We have deemed our kid as binky-friendly rather than binky-dependent. It amazes me how loved binky is by others (especially older generations). It's like a reflex if he moves or makes a noise-bop that binky in his mouth is their first response. However, I try to limit the binky use. This is a challenge because he loves to suck! However, once he's out and not using it (at sleepy time) or entertained and focused on something else (at wakey time), I take it away to decrease dependence. Thus, our term: binky-friendly.

Burpy: This is what we call the cloth we have on our shoulder working out a a tiny noise(we also refer to as burpy) trying to prevent hiccups. It doesn't happen often, the burp itself, and he prefers to pass out and wake up with hiccups instead!

Boob: This is not the same as it once was. Plural, boobs, no longer refers to the girls who offered a friendly hello amongst a plunging neckline. While every neckline is plunging right now (holy cow-pun intended), they have now taken on the meaning of milk machine! How I love the feedings but how I hope the girls make a comeback when we're done!

Boppy: Most of you know what your traditional Boppy is. However, thanks to our Meme (my mom), we have 4 versions of Boppy.

The traditional Boppy used to keep him in place and often used for daytime nursing.

Then, we have the Mommy Boppy which is a massive mess of a pillow intended for pregnancy comfort while sleeping. I didn't get it until returning from the hospital/ delivery and have found it to offer nightly comfort even without the tummy. It is also used for night time feedings sitting up in bed.

Third is our Boppy knock off. The traditional Boppy is too big for the bassinet so this travel neck pillow is used to keep him in place at our bedside.

Finally, the Baby Boppy. The widest part of this little guy is maybe 6 inches. We most often use it at our changing station. I tried it in the crib once. . . the crib is not yet a hit!
Yes, that's a hair dryer on our changing pad.
We use it to dry his butt before closing up his diaper to ensure he's nice and dry
(on warm or cool) to prevent diaper rash. He also loves to have it on as white noise.
We RARELY have a screaming baby for diaper and outfit changes so far.
Bumgenius: This is the brand of the majority of the cloth diapers we're using. As a newborn, we have very few to fit but he'll be in them essentially full-time once he gains a bit more weight. They're all-in-ones and will last us through to potty training. Is it a chore? You bet? Do I know what I'm doing? Hardly. Thank God for Garrett's sitter, Carissa!

Boogey: This is, of course, the green crap that intrudes upon his breathing on occasion. I picked a boogey the first time we were at the office for his newborn check-up as if it were second nature and didn't bat a lash. Until I realized how large it was on the tip of my finger and was grateful they had a sink in the room!

Buddy: What Daddy tends to call him (and the Tucker dog) when he gets home for the day.

Boog: What Mommy calls her little man: Boog, Boogey Man, Boogey Baby, Boogity and other random variations that even lead to a 2-liner version of Boogey Nights from time to time.

Blowout: For the diaper. I don't mean Pauly D style:

Plus. . . our debated and anticipated "b"s: Blue or Brown? :)  Daddy's eyes are blue and Mommy's eyes are brown. He looks A LOT like Daddy and I would LOVE to see his eyes turn brown so there's one obvious Mommy trait in there. Can't wait to see!

Finally: BLESSINGS: Garrett has brought so many blessings to our lives and reminded us of the many blessings we've already had; friends and family who love and care for us and automatically extend that love and care to him!

Many blessings to you and yours as well!
